Royal Victoria Healthcare Centre Emergency Redesign Project
2018
When Diamond Schmitt was hired by RVH to create the new RVH master plan, RVH was already in the middle of conducting a study to help the Emergency Department manage patient volumes that typically run at 120 of capacity. As a large intervention was not possible logistically or financially sensible with major changes a few years away., RVH was seeking Diamond Schmitt’s help to provide maximum change with minimum intervention.
A deep understanding of the current state was achieved through client engagement, tours, analysis of plans and analysis of process design. From this understanding, a series of plans were developed that featured properly separated patient and service/transfer space, a simpler and better controlled registration area, and new “Results Pending” area that ensure that patient follow a predictable and logical path as their medical issues are addressed.
